Overview
La Casa de Almeja is a family owned seafood restaurant with deep roots in Madrid’s culinary scene. The second generation owners approached me to redesign their outdated website and create a modern, responsive digital presence that would honor their legacy while appealing to a younger, more digitally engaged audience. As the sole designer on this project, I led the entire UX/UI process, from initial research and content strategy to wireframing, prototyping and final visual design.
Design Process
My goal was to strike a balance between heritage and modernity by using a soft, coastal inspired color palette, clean layouts and generous white space to reflect both tradition and freshness.
I designed a clear information architecture that allows users to explore the menu intuitively and quickly find essential details such as location, opening hours and contact information. The “About Us” section was designed to tell the family’s story with warmth and authenticity, enhanced by curated imagery and thoughtful typography. To improve user engagement, I added featured dish suggestions and integrated a map directly into the layout, making key interactions accessible across the page.
From a technical perspective, I optimized the layout for readability and mobile responsiveness. I used a component based layout system to ensure scalability for future updates and followed accessibility best practices regarding contrast, font size and keyboard navigation.
What I Learned from This Project?
This project gave me the opportunity to design for an established brand with a strong identity, where every detail needed to reflect a personal story. It also strengthened my ability to make visual and structural decisions that feel both modern and intuitive.
